Potluck Sunday May 21

All are welcome at our potluck dinner on Sunday, May 21, at the home of Whitney Petrilli at 7122 Baldwin Ridge Road.

We have two speakers lined up for what should be an interesting evening.

Member Warren Darrell will make a short presentation about his experiences this year in Honduras, where he volunteers with the Ecologic Development Fund, which promotes environmental protection, clean drinking water, sustainable agriculture, and human development for rural families in Central America.

Our second speaker is Tim Cywinski, the Communications Director for Virginia21– a non-profit, non-partisan, millennial advocacy organization committed to enhancing the influence of young Virginians in state and local politics. After graduating from Roanoke College, he became a community organizer and activist working on issues related to reproductive rights, social justice, public health, and college affordability. Before college Tim worked in a variety of capacities on a number of state and federal campaign in Virginia and completed an internship with Senator Tim Kaine’s Office. He is now responsible for crafting message strategies, building press relations, maintaining Virginia21’s online presence, and recruiting students to help lobby the General Assembly Session. Tim regularly speaks to community organization and other socially conscious groups around Virginia to help them understand how to directly influence decision-makers during the General Assembly Session and beyond.  Tim will give a brief discussion of how the legislature works and how best to influence the process.
